American celebrates National Medal of Honor Day

This month, American Airlines celebrates the men and women who have received our nations highest honor. As the official airline of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, American will support and attend foundation events to recognize military heroes. Events begin on March 23 and include the Circle of Honor dinner hosted by American’s Military Veterans Initiatives at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

After a patriotic send-off, honorees will fly to an arrival ceremony at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., all leading up to the official National Medal of Honor Day celebrations on March 25.

The first Medal of Honor was presented on March 25, 1863. In 1990, Congress dedicated March 25 as National Medal of Honor Day. It is a day for the President to decorate soldiers with the Medal of Honor as well as recognize previous recipients. It is an honor for American Airlines to be part of the festivities.

American has a history of supporting military members and their families through programs such as Snowball Express, Fisher House Hero Miles, Salute to the Troops, Seats for Soldiers and Honor Flights. More than 6,000 employees at American are veterans or active military. Learn more about how to donate to American military causes.
